1st Rajab: Dua upon sighting the crescent of Rajab

It is recommended to recite the Sura Al Hamd seven times when seeing the crescent moon. God would protect anyone who recites it from the soreness of the eyes during this month. -Iqbal Aamal

1. It has been narrated that upon sighting the crescent of Rajab, The Messenger of Allah (SAWW) said:

allahumma barik lana fi rajabin wa sha`bana

O Allah, Please bless us in Rajab and Sha`ban.

wa ballighna shahra ramadana

and bring us to the month of Ramadhan,

wa a`inna `ala alssiyami walqiyami

and assist us in fasting, and worshipping,

wa hifzi allisani<

to be careful in our speech,,

wa ghaddi albasari

and turning the eyes from the unlawful..

let our only share of it not be only hunger and thirst!”.

2.It has been narrated that when he (saws) saw the crescent moon, he (saws) exalted God three times and then he (SAWW) said

“Praise be to God, Who changed the month by taking away the moon for the last month and bringing the moon for this month.”

3.At the sight of the new moon, it is recommended to say the following

allahumma ahillahu `alayna bil-amni wal-imani

O Allah, cause it (i.e. the moon) to appear carrying for our security, faith,

walssalamati wal-islami

safety, and Islam.

rabbi wa rabbuka allahu `azza wa jalla

Your and my Lord is Allah, the Glorified and Majestic.
